The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is actively seeking two suspects wanted for vandalizing two synagogues in Queens, New York, during a single night in July. The investigation has expanded from a lone suspect to two individuals following incidents at Young Israel of Holliswood and Young Israel of Jamaica Estates. The first incident occurred on the night of July 16 at 11:44 p.m. at 86-25 Francis Lewis Blvd., where the suspects threw a bag of motor oil at the synagogue entrance. They fled on foot, entered a dark-colored SUV, and sped away. Approximately one mile west, the duo struck Young Israel of Jamaica Estates at 83-10 188th St. between 11 p.m. and 6:20 a.m. the following morning, repeating the vandalism by throwing motor oil at the entrance. No injuries were reported in either incident. Surveillance video shows one suspect with a medium to light complexion, black hair, and a beard, wearing a black sweater over a white shirt, gray pants, and black sandals. His accomplice wore a black head covering, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and white sneakers, and appeared to carry one of the oil bags. The investigation remains ongoing with no arrests made. The NYPD is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
