A fatal shooting occurred early Sunday morning at the historic Tucker’s Grove Camp Meeting in Lincoln County, North Carolina, leaving one person dead and a suspect at large. The incident took place around 1:20 a.m. at the campground, which is one of the oldest continuously operating African American religious camp meetings in the South. Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, who were providing security for the event, responded to a disturbance involving a firearm. During the altercation, an individual was shot by an unknown suspect. Law enforcement officers immediately pursued the suspect, but the individual managed to flee the area before being apprehended. Emergency responders, including Lincoln County EMS personnel, administered lifesaving measures to the victim on scene. The victim was subsequently transported to Atrium Main Hospital but died shortly thereafter. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the shooting but declined to release further details at this time, citing that the case remains an active investigation.
