Philadelphia police are actively searching for at least four men wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies that took place in Center City early Sunday morning. The incidents occurred around 3 a.m. along the 1500 block of Locust Street and the nearby 9th District area. According to 9th District Captain Anthony Ganard, the suspects, described as three armed men, targeted multiple victims, stealing electronics, cash, wallets, and jewelry. Video evidence captured by the Word to the Wise Podcast shows a masked man wielding an AR-15-style rifle, forcing a victim to kneel and surrender a piece of jewelry. In one instance, a victim resisted the robbery and was pistol-whipped by a suspect, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries that required hospitalization. Following the crimes, the suspects fled southbound on 15th Street in a gray Honda Accord. Police have identified the driver as a wanted suspect. The vehicle used in the robberies was reported stolen from Cheltenham Township on August 19 and was recovered by police at an undisclosed location in Philadelphia around 1 a.m. on Monday. Captain Ganard noted that the use of an AR-15-style rifle in such robberies is unusual and that investigators are currently determining if the victims were targeted specifically or if the acts were random. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities reviewing additional video evidence from nearby sources. The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the suspects or the stolen vehicle to contact the tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
