The New York Police Department is actively searching for Jesus Acosta, a 31-year-old man from the Bronx, who is wanted in connection with two separate deadly shootings. Acosta is the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old customer at the 149 Grill and Deli located on East 149th Street in the Melrose section of the Bronx. The incident occurred just after 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. According to police reports, the suspect entered the establishment, shot the customer, threatened employees behind the counter, and stole an unknown amount of money from the cash register before fleeing eastbound on East 149th Street. The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln but was later pronounced dead. Authorities believe Acosta is also responsible for a deadly shooting that took place over the weekend at American Best Wings and Pizza on Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville, Brooklyn. During that incident, a 44-year-old employee was shot in the head and killed, while a 39-year-old man was wounded in the leg. Acosta is described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and white sneakers at the time of the Bronx robbery. He has distinctive tattoos, including the word "Bronx" on his hand and "Bobby" on his left forearm. The suspect has a significant criminal history, including 13 prior arrests and a 10-year prison sentence for shooting a man on a Harlem subway platform, from which he was paroled in April 2026. The NYPD is urging the public to assist in locating Acosta. Individuals with information are asked to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
