Chicago police are searching for one or more suspects wanted in connection with a fatal armed robbery that occurred Tuesday morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood. The incident took place at approximately 2:52 a.m. in the 3400-block of South California Avenue at a Thornton's gas station. According to authorities, the suspect or suspects entered the business brandishing handguns and demanded money from the register. During the robbery, a 36-year-old man, identified as a regular customer who was fueling up and getting coffee, allegedly warned the clerk about the intruders. As the suspects fled the scene with the stolen money, one of them fired shots at the victim, striking him multiple times. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, with one customer recounting that the suspect flew over the counter to demand the register contents before exiting and shooting the victim. The gas station clerk, who expressed fear for her safety, stated she does not wish to work the overnight shift following the attack. This marks the second shooting at this specific location in two years, with a previous incident in September 2024 resulting in three people being shot. Area One detectives are currently investigating the homicide and are appealing to the public for information. Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact the Chicago Police Department.
