Alturas police are urgently seeking the public's assistance in locating a 29-year-old fugitive suspect who remains at large. The man, described as a transient from Michigan, is 6-foot-2, weighs 180 pounds, and has red hair, blue eyes, and multiple facial tattoos. He is wanted for allegedly shucking his ankle monitor and violating conditions of his release. The incident began on August 20, just hours after the suspect was freed from Modoc County Jail on his own recognizance. Police discovered the suspect had left town and located his GPS tracking device the following day; it had been removed from his ankle and was found in the area of the city pound. Authorities confirmed that a break-in occurred at the pound late that night, resulting in the disappearance of two of the suspect's three dogs. Law enforcement initially made contact with the man on August 17 after his dogs reportedly attacked a deer. During a subsequent encounter, officers learned he is a registered sex offender who had moved from Michigan to California without checking in as required. When officers attempted to arrest him for this violation, he allegedly resisted, leading to additional charges. The suspect is currently wanted for resisting arrest, violating sex offender registration requirements, and potentially other charges related to the pound break-in. Alturas police advise the public not to approach, confront, or attempt to detain the suspect due to potential danger.
