Philadelphia police are actively searching for 21-year-old Jahylin Melcher, who is wanted in connection with two fatal shootings and one non-fatal shooting. The first victim, Sharif Holeman, was shot and killed near a baseball field in Hunting Park around 10 p.m. on June 20. Six days later, on June 26, Martin Higgins was fatally shot in the back on the 900 block of Hunting Park Avenue. Investigators also link Melcher to a non-fatal shooting that occurred in the same area in May. District Attorney Larry Krasner confirmed that investigators believe the suspect specifically targeted members of the LGBTQ+ community. Melcher is known to have frequented the Hunting Park area and previously lived across the street from the crime scene. Police believe the suspect was hiding out in Philadelphia as recently as July.
