New York City law enforcement officials are actively searching for 31-year-old Jesus Acosta, who is wanted in connection with two separate deadly shootings that occurred in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Acosta is alleged to have fatally shot 33-year-old Tayvon Shuler inside a bodega located in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx on Tuesday. During this incident, Acosta also robbed the store and injured a bodega employee, who survived by taking cover behind the cash register. Surveillance video from the scene captures the employee hiding as the shooting unfolded. In a separate incident on Sunday, Acosta is accused of opening fire inside a restaurant in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, where 44-year-old M.D. Yousef was killed and another man was wounded. Investigators have identified both victims and are continuing their manhunt for Acosta, who was released on parole approximately four months ago after serving an 11-year prison sentence for attempted murder. The United Bodegas of America has issued a $10,000 reward for information leading to Acosta's arrest, and the FBI has announced a $25,000 reward for information resulting in his arrest and conviction. Community leaders, including United Bodegas of America spokesman Fernando Mateo, have called for stricter gun laws, expanded use of panic buttons in stores, and the ability for business owners to carry firearms for self-defense following these tragedies.
