Vernon Hills police are actively searching for Eduardo 'Eddie' Acosta-Gonzalez, a 54-year-old resident of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Acosta-Gonzalez is wanted in connection with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a 12-year-old female softball player. The allegations stem from his role as a hitting coach at a Vernon Hills sports performance center, where he rented space to train young athletes. According to an arrest warrant filed last Friday, the investigation was initiated following a referral from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Police allege that Acosta improperly massaged the victim on two separate occasions during the spring and summer, resulting in inappropriate contact with her breast and groin areas. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison for each count. Authorities have stated that their efforts to locate and arrest Acosta have been unsuccessful, and there is concern that he may have left the state. The suspect is believed to have offered private coaching services throughout the Chicago area, with recent activity noted in Vernon Hills and Wauconda. Additionally, witness statements suggest that Acosta may have acted inappropriately with other underage athletes. Vernon Hills police have notified known youth programs affiliated with Acosta regarding the investigation. While it remains unclear whether he continues to have access to juvenile athletes, law enforcement is urging parents of athletes trained by Acosta to speak with their children and report any suspicious conduct.
