A male suspect remains at large following a violent home invasion in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he impersonated a law enforcement officer to gain entry into a residence. The incident occurred on the early morning of August 26, 2026, around 12:15 a.m., near the 900 block of Greenfield Avenue. According to reports, Madalyn Durmis and her roommate were asleep on the second floor when they were awakened by a loud noise. Upon investigating, Durmis encountered a man ascending the stairs who identified himself as State Police and claimed she was under arrest. The suspect, described as approximately five-foot-eight with short brown hair, was wearing a black tank top and black jeans but displayed no badge or official identification. Recognizing the inconsistency in the man's appearance and demeanor, Durmis defended herself by striking the intruder with a broken shower curtain rod and successfully chased him out of the house. Although the suspect fled, he managed to steal a set of vehicle keys from a coffee table near the front door. Fearing for their safety, Durmis and her roommate stayed elsewhere for two days while installing security cameras and replacing their car key fob. The decision proved prudent, as security footage captured the same individual returning to the property on the morning of August 29. The video shows the suspect stepping onto the porch, triggering the alarm, and subsequently fleeing the scene. Pittsburgh Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and the suspect is still at large.
