A six-year-old girl is currently hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting incident that occurred Sunday afternoon in the University District of Columbus, Ohio. The victim was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital after the incident took place on the 1200 block of North Sixth Street. Columbus police officers responded to the scene at approximately 3:30 P.M. upon receiving initial reports of a shooting. Early information from a dispatcher suggested the injury might have been self-inflicted or accidental; however, subsequent calls to police indicated that a separate shooter may have been involved in the event. According to law enforcement, several teenagers and at least one adult were present inside the residence at the time of the shooting. Immediately following the incident, a boy under the age of 18 fled the scene. Police have confirmed that this male is not related to the injured child. Investigators are actively searching for a possible suspect who may have fled the area. At this time, the identity of the suspect has not been released to the public. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the Columbus Police Department.
