A disabled Marine veteran, Dwayne Coly, is continuing his search for justice one month after a hit-and-run incident severely damaged his home in Jacksonville, Florida. The incident occurred on July 29, 2026, when a vehicle slammed into the side of Coly’s house in the Normandy neighborhood, causing significant structural damage that has rendered his staircase and inclined lifts inaccessible. Coly, who relies on these lifts for mobility, was asleep when the crash occurred, initially believing an intruder had broken in. Security camera footage captured the driver, identified in police reports as 22-year-old Gage Remington Carter, fleeing the scene. The crash report indicates that the impact damaged the home’s exterior, stairwell, and a handicapped chair inside. Despite the clear video evidence and the identification of the driver, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not yet apprehended Carter. Coly expressed frustration over the lack of an arrest, noting the cowardice of the act and the ongoing financial burden of repairs and temporary housing. The report also notes that two other individuals were in the vehicle; one was the owner of the car but was seated in the back, and the other left the scene but will not face charges. Investigators have stated they planned to seek an arrest warrant through the State Attorney’s Office, but as of the report's publication, no arrest has been made.
