Leeland Chapman, a bounty hunter known for his appearances on the reality television series 'Dog the Bounty Hunter,' has successfully located Sage Spang, a man wanted in connection with a homicide in Billings, Montana. Chapman reported that he spent more than two weeks tracking Spang across the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, specifically in the area of Lame Deer. During this period, Chapman spotted Spang at various locations, including a gas station, a parking lot, and a bar, while receiving regular updates from sources regarding his whereabouts. Despite Chapman’s efforts to locate the suspect, he stated that he is legally unable to make an arrest on the reservation, as jurisdiction falls under federal authority held by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the FBI. Chapman expressed frustration that neither he nor local law enforcement has been able to move forward with an arrest, citing jurisdictional roadblocks. Billings Police Department had been seeking Spang since July 2025 for a possible homicide. Northern Cheyenne Tribal President Gene Small confirmed that warrants are out for Spang and that the tribe has been waiting for a judge to sign off on the arrest. Small noted that Spang has allegedly continued to commit crimes while at large, including a recent accusation of assaulting another person. The tribal president emphasized the community's desire to apprehend Spang to ensure public safety. As of the report, Spang remains at large, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs declined to comment on the status of the case. Chapman, who worked on the case for 17 days, stated that his efforts have so far yielded no result due to the lack of official action by authorities with jurisdiction.
