The Merced County Sheriff’s Office has identified 21-year-old Gabriel Angel Salas as the suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at the Los Banos Fairgrounds. The incident took place on the evening of August 29, 2026, when deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the venue. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered 31-year-old Kody Pena, who was working as a security guard at a private event, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Pena was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have determined that Salas, a resident of Sacramento, is responsible for the murder. He is currently considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution. Salas is believed to be in the West Sacramento area. He is described as a Hispanic male with hazel eyes and long black hair, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build.
