A massive manhunt is currently underway in Meriwether County, Georgia, following the fatal shooting of a police officer on Wednesday morning. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jimmy Steverson, is considered armed and dangerous and remains at large. The victim has been identified as Officer Chris Fisher of the Warm Springs Police Department. Authorities state that Steverson had previously been arrested by Officer Fisher on August 28, 2026, on felony charges including obstruction, possession of a firearm during an attempted crime, and marijuana possession. Steverson is believed to have killed Fisher in retaliation or during a subsequent encounter. The suspect was last seen in Warm Springs just before midnight on Tuesday. He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with black locs and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, Steverson was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt and black gym shorts. He is believed to be fleeing in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado with the license plate DEJ2082. A statewide Blue Alert has been issued for Steverson. Dozens of deputies, local officers, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents have converged on the scene near the Meriwether County Inn.
