Rayonna Diane Bell, a 19-year-old member of the Lumbee Tribe, is the victim of an unsolved murder investigation centered on the Fort Bragg military reservation in North Carolina. Her body was discovered in April at Mott Lake, where she had been fatally shot. At the time of discovery, Bell was barefoot and missing her purse and cell phone. An anonymous caller had tipped off law enforcement regarding the location of the body. Bell had been reported missing from her residence on Turnpike Road, where she lived with her boyfriend, Josh Hunt. Her family was initially told they had to wait 48 hours before a missing person report could be filed. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office. Capt. Shipp of the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that while there are persons of interest, no arrests have been made to date. Bell’s family, expressing frustration over the lack of progress, has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Littlesnowbird Bray, a Hoke County resident and advocate for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), has joined the family in seeking justice. The case highlights broader concerns regarding violence against Indigenous women.
