Manjit Singh Bedi, a 65-year-old resident of Tacoma, Washington, has been added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list. Bedi is accused of orchestrating a significant fraud scheme involving federal food assistance programs. According to federal prosecutors, Bedi owned and operated the Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma. Between March 2024 and June 2025, he allegedly accepted customers' Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits via electronic benefit transfer cards but provided cash instead of food. Authorities state that Bedi kept approximately half of the funds from these illicit transactions. The FBI emphasized that these benefits are designed to help vulnerable individuals afford food, and the fraud resulted in taxpayer money being diverted for personal gain. Bedi was indicted on charges of wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud. Although he was initially allowed to remain out of custody, a judge ordered him to surrender his passport and remain within Washington state. Instead of complying, Bedi fled to Canada and subsequently to India. He is a naturalized U.S. citizen. A federal arrest warrant was issued on May 21 after Bedi was charged with violating the conditions of his supervision. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. The fraudsters list is distinct from the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Since its inception, 16 individuals have been added to this specific list, with four having been captured as of the current date.
