The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 35-year-old Donte Godwin, who remains at large following an officer-involved shooting incident in Augusta, Georgia. Godwin is wanted on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer after allegedly opening fire on deputies Thursday evening, September 3. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Tybee Court, where deputies had responded to a call regarding an assault. Upon arrival, authorities state that Godwin fired at the officers, prompting them to return fire in self-defense. Godwin subsequently fled the scene and has not been apprehended. While no deputies were injured, law enforcement believes Godwin may have been hit by gunfire and could be injured. He is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 290 pounds, and was last seen wearing teal shorts and a black shirt. His last known location was near the intersection of Lovers Lane and Tybee Court. Lovers Lane remains closed in both directions as the search continues, and residents are advised to avoid the area. Investigators are urging the public to contact them with any information rather than approaching Godwin directly.
