Vadim Kruglov, a 37-year-old Russian-born man originally from Omsk, Siberia, and a resident of Washington state, was found stabbed to death inside a tent at the Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. The incident occurred on August 30, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., coinciding with the burning of the iconic 'Man' sculpture. Kruglov was discovered in a pool of blood with a knife lodged in his neck. An autopsy revealed no defensive wounds, leading investigators to conclude that Kruglov had little to no opportunity to fight back against his attacker. The weapon was recovered at the scene and yielded several DNA profiles, but no arrests have been made as of the current date, September 2026. This marks the first known homicide in the history of the annual art and music festival, which draws up to 80,000 participants. Investigators are particularly focused on the four-hour window between 5:00 p.m. and 9:14 p.m. on the night of the killing. During this time, Kruglov had been released from Rampart, a temporary hospital on the festival grounds, after receiving medical care earlier in the day. Prior to this, he was seen around 2:00 a.m. DJing with two unidentified men at a camp on the outskirts of the festival. Friends and campmates reported that Kruglov had become increasingly paranoid in the days leading up to his death, potentially due to drug use, and had expressed fears that people were watching him. His father, Igor Kruglov, has publicly called for justice, describing his son as someone who fought for fairness. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek tips from the public to identify the suspect or the two men seen with Kruglov.
