The case stems from a tragic incident on August 1, 2026, when fire personnel and emergency responders discovered a deceased infant on the side of Struve Road in the 100 block. Forensic examinations revealed the infant suffered traumatic injuries, and evidence indicates the baby’s mother, the 14-year-old daughter, gave birth alongside the roadway and abandoned the child. While the teen girl is also the subject of a murder warrant, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has classified her as a victim of her father’s abuse and is prioritizing her safety and access to support services rather than immediate prosecution. Perez’s wife, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, 36, has already been arrested and booked for child endangerment, though she was released after posting bail.
