The Federal Bureau of Investigation has added Manjit Singh Bedi, a naturalized US citizen, to its list of most wanted fraudsters. Bedi is accused of orchestrating a significant fraud scheme involving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) while operating a grocery store in Tacoma, Washington. According to the FBI, between March 2024 and June 2025, Bedi allegedly defrauded the US government of at least USD 6 lakh. The scheme involved Bedi swiping customers' Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and providing them with cash instead of food, retaining half of the proceeds for himself. After being indicted for wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud, Bedi was initially allowed to appear in court without arrest but was ordered to surrender his passport and remain in Washington state. Instead, he fled the United States, traveling first to Canada and subsequently to India. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Bedi on May 21 in a US district court following charges for violations of conditions of supervision. The FBI is currently seeking the public's assistance in locating Bedi, who remains at large. Authorities have offered a reward of up to USD 150,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction. Investigators emphasize that Bedi is considered dangerous and urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the FBI immediately. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat fraud within federal benefit programs, particularly those targeting vulnerable populations relying on food assistance. Bedi's flight to India complicates international law enforcement efforts, as authorities work with foreign counterparts to facilitate his return to the United States to face justice.
