The incident occurred just after midnight on August 14, 2026. According to law enforcement, the suspect approached a valet attendant and presented a valet ticket for the vehicle. To facilitate the theft, he falsely claimed to be a professional basketball player who had parked multiple vehicles at the hotel, thereby convincing the staff he was the rightful owner. In reality, the BMW had been loaned by a local dealership to a guest staying at the Hyatt Regency. The suspect drove the vehicle away immediately after receiving it from the valet. Prior to the theft, the man was observed in the hotel lobby handling items from a white 2025 Audi A5, which was later found unlocked and undamaged in the hotel parking garage. Investigators note that this incident is part of a pattern of similar crimes. Just over a week earlier, on August 6, a guest at a nearby Fairfield Inn had her 2019 Toyota C-HR stolen from the valet stand under suspicious circumstances. Police have released four surveillance images of the suspect via social media and are urging the public to come forward with any information.
