ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mo. — Deputies in St. Clair County are actively searching for a suspect following a dangerous shooting incident that narrowly missed a child inside their home. The incident occurred on August 31, 2026, at approximately 8:20 p.m., near the intersection of B Highway and NE 251 Road in Osceola, Missouri. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect fired a weapon from the road, sending what is believed to be a shotgun slug through a road sign and directly into the residence. The projectile created a large hole in the home’s porch and penetrated into the bedroom of a 12-year-old child. At the time of the shooting, the child was sitting on their bed. The bullet struck the wall, knocking a shirt to the floor, and lodged itself between the pillow and the mattress. Investigators determined that the bullet’s trajectory was directly in line with where the child was sitting, highlighting the extreme recklessness of the act. The sheriff’s office emphasized that the event nearly cost the young child their life. Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office at 417-646-2565. The investigation is ongoing, and deputies continue to search for the individual responsible for this violent act.
