Milwaukee police are searching for a second suspect who remains at large following a fatal police shooting on the city's north side. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, near the intersection of 37th and Wright streets. According to Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Chief Jeffrey Norman, officers initiated a pursuit after spotting a vehicle matching the description of one wanted in connection with a Glendale shots-fired investigation that took place on September 7. During the chase, two suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. MPD officers pursued one of the individuals, repeatedly ordering him to the ground. When the suspect refused to comply, an exchange of gunfire ensued. The suspect, identified by the county medical examiner's office as 23-year-old Printis Smith, was killed at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders. Police reported that Smith was armed with one gun in his hand and another in his waistband, with a third weapon found in the vehicle. The officer involved, a 35-year-old man with over three years of service, sustained a non-fatal injury and was released from the hospital. He has been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure. While Smith is deceased, the second suspect who fled the scene remains unapprehended. Glendale Police confirmed they have been actively searching for a suspect since the initial incident on September 7. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team, with the Wauwatosa Police Department serving as the lead agency, is conducting an investigation into the critical incident. Body-worn camera and dashcam video are scheduled to be released to the public within 15 days, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure 575. Authorities continue to seek information regarding the location and identity of the remaining suspect.
