The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a group of half-dozen masked suspects following an armed robbery at the Gas N Wash located at 14010 West Rockland Road in Green Oaks, Illinois. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, September 9, 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m. According to Sheriff’s Chief Christopher Covelli, the suspects, described as wearing masks and gloves, entered the convenience store and gas station. Five of the offenders utilized sledgehammers and crowbars to forcibly break into video gaming machines and the cash register, while a sixth suspect remained outside in a black SUV. During the commission of the crime, the suspects jumped over the counter, threatened the clerk, and threw a glass bottle at him. A private security guard employed by the gaming company was present during the incident but was not harmed. The suspects fled the scene at a high rate of speed, with the vehicle last seen traveling southbound on Interstate 294. While the suspects escaped initially, the Chicago Police Department subsequently recovered proceeds from the robbery on the south side of Chicago, and Lake County detectives are coordinating with Chicago authorities to identify the individuals involved. This event marks the second attack on this specific location in less than a month, following a similar burglary on August 18 where more than ten offenders were observed breaking into gaming machines. Authorities have established a task force involving detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and other Chicagoland agencies to investigate a series of gaming machine burglaries across the region.
