Phoenix police are searching for an unidentified suspect following a fatal shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning, September 8, 2026, in a west Phoenix neighborhood. The incident took place shortly before 6 a.m. at a residence located near the intersection of 79th Drive and Indian School Road. According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Sheree Lee, the violence erupted during a small gathering when an argument between two women escalated. Two men attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but an unknown male suspect produced a firearm and opened fire on them. The shooting resulted in the immediate death of 42-year-old Jesus Ivan Buitimea Valencia at the scene. The second victim, the other man who was shot, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Authorities have stated that while the second victim is expected to survive, he remains in critical care. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement and has not yet been apprehended. At this time, police have not released a physical description of the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
