McFarland Police are actively searching for two suspects, Joshua Cortez and Elvis Garcia, who are wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Alfonzo Jacobo Espitia. The incident occurred on August 22, 2026, at approximately 3:18 p.m. at a laundromat located in the 100 block of West Perkins Avenue in McFarland, California. Upon arrival, officers discovered Espitia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that Cortez and Garcia entered the establishment prior to the shooting. Cortez, an 18-year-old Richgrove resident and documented Norteño gang member, allegedly confronted Espitia and fired multiple shots. Garcia, 19, entered with Cortez and is alleged to have participated in the homicide. Both suspects remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous. Authorities have issued a public warning urging residents not to approach or attempt to detain either individual. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of both men. Cortez is wanted for first-degree murder.
