Three masked suspects remain at large following a violent burglary at the Chill House restaurant in Frankfort, Illinois. The incident occurred Monday morning, marking the second time the long-time family-owned business has been targeted in just over a month. Surveillance footage captures the individuals, dressed in dark clothing, using sledgehammers to smash and pry open five of the establishment's six video gambling machines. The crew successfully stole thousands of dollars in cash from the machines, which operate on a cash-only system. Stan Rousenelos, a part owner of the Chill House, described the event as a helpless experience, noting that police were dispatched but arrived only 30 seconds after the suspects had already fled. The burglaries are believed to be part of a pattern involving organized crews that move across county lines, targeting video gaming machines in bars and restaurants. Lake County Chief of Law Enforcement Chris Covelli stated that these groups typically return to the city to divide the stolen funds. In response to the surge in such crimes, more than 50 detectives from various police departments and sheriff's offices across the Chicago suburbs have formed a specialized task force to investigate video gaming thefts. The Will County Sheriff's Office confirmed that no arrests have been made and the suspects are still at large. As law enforcement works to identify the perpetrators, the Chill House is implementing new security measures, including interior steel shutters and 24-hour monitoring services, to prevent future incidents. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help bring the criminals responsible to justice.
