The Renton Police Department is actively seeking a suspect believed to be responsible for a sexually motivated assault on a female jogger that occurred last weekend in Renton, Washington. The incident took place around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday near Southwest 27th Street and Naches Avenue Southwest. According to Susan Lewis, commander for the Renton Police Department, officers responded to the scene after the victim was attacked while jogging on a nearby trail. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, police have withheld further details regarding the victim. Investigators have released a description of the suspect as a Black man in his 20s or 30s. A key identifying feature is his attire: he was seen wearing a distinct purple long-sleeve hoodie with animal ears attached to the hood. Commander Lewis noted that while the style resembles a child’s sweatshirt, the garment was adult-sized. The suspect was observed on foot and at times on a bicycle during the morning of the assault. Police have tracked the suspect’s movements earlier that day, noting sightings at bus shelters in the 2700 block of Naches Avenue Southwest around 7:30 a.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. He was also briefly spotted in the 1900 block of Raymond Avenue Southwest between 9:25 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Forensic investigators have recovered eyeglasses from the scene and are processing them for evidence. Detectives have canvassed the area for surveillance footage and have distributed images and maps via social media. The public is urged to review dash cameras, home security systems, and vehicle surveillance for any images matching the suspect’s description, particularly the unique purple hoodie. Individuals with information are asked to contact RPD Detective Adele O’Rourke at 425-430-7647 or via email at aorourke@rentonwa.gov. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Police emphasize that the suspect is currently at large and encourage community vigilance.
