Mount Pleasant police are actively investigating a significant vandalism incident that occurred overnight Sunday at Moultrie Middle School, resulting in over $13,000 in damages. The suspect is currently at large and is being sought by law enforcement. The alleged crime involves criminal mischief and property damage, including the destruction of school infrastructure and nearby municipal property. Investigators discovered the damage during a routine walkthrough by Charleston County School District security officials on Monday morning. The majority of the destruction was concentrated along the Coleman Boulevard side of the school building. Specific damages include three metal handicapped parking signs that were removed and discarded near the site, a Toro irrigation control box that was ripped from the building’s exterior, damaging internal wires and conduits, and four dual-pane tinted windows in Room C-110 that were shattered. Additionally, a concrete-based trash can located on the property of the nearby Town of Mount Pleasant Farmers Market was pulled from the ground and dragged through a gravel area, scattering its contents. Preliminary cost estimates attribute approximately $9,000 to the irrigation equipment, $4,000 to the windows, $500 to the trash can, and $200 to landscaping repairs. Surveillance video reviewed by investigators captured the suspect on school property at approximately 11:50 p.m. Sunday. Notably, the individual was not wearing gloves, which has led crime scene investigators to process the area for potential biological evidence. A still image from the surveillance footage has been distributed to officers as part of a be-on-the-lookout alert. The investigation remains ongoing, with officers reviewing additional surveillance footage from nearby businesses and distributing images of the suspect in an effort to identify and locate the individual. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect or the incident to contact them immediately.
