The New York City Police Department is actively searching for a gunman who remains at large following a shooting incident at the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn. The suspect is wanted for shooting and wounding two strangers, a 37-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, on September 7. According to police, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. near the corner of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood. Authorities state that the gunman, who was observed with a Jamaican flag hanging from his waistband, became involved in an argument with a rival. During the confrontation, the suspect pulled a firearm and opened fire, missing his intended target but striking the two bystanders. The woman sustained an ankle wound, while the young man suffered a graze to the foot. Both victims were transported to Kings County Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released. The suspect fled the scene west on Eastern Parkway and has not been apprehended as of Saturday. Police have released surveillance images of the individual and are urging the public to assist in the manhunt. This shooting was part of a broader pattern of violence during the parade festivities, which included additional shootings and stabbings in the area. Mayor Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch had previously announced measures to shorten the event due to safety concerns. Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the gunman's whereabouts to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. All tips are kept confidential. The suspect is currently considered armed and dangerous, and authorities have made no arrests in connection with the double shooting.
