Law enforcement officials in New Jersey are actively searching for Douglas Cobb, a 51-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Bruce Gress. The incident occurred on Friday, September 18, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m. in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store located at the intersection of Route 37 and Garfield Avenue in Toms River. According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Toms River Township Police Department officers responded to reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers discovered Gress with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently died. An arrest warrant has been issued for Cobb, who is now considered a fugitive. He faces multiple charges, including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and other related offenses. The suspect is also known by the aliases Douglas Green and the nickname Bootknock. Authorities believe Cobb was last seen driving a black 2016 Acura MDX with New Jersey license plate T93YJL. Prosecutor Billhimer praised the teamwork exhibited by all involved law enforcement agencies but emphasized that the primary focus remains locating Cobb and bringing him into custody. The public is urged to advise Cobb to turn himself in peacefully. Anyone with credible information regarding Cobb's whereabouts is asked to contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit at 732-929-2027 or the Toms River Township Police Department at 732-349-0150.
