Deputies in Placer County, California, are engaged in an extensive manhunt for Derek Spencer, a 44-year-old man described as bald with a goatee. Spencer is wanted for several felonies, including murder and assault with a deadly weapon, following a violent incident that began on Sunday. Authorities state that Spencer allegedly pointed a firearm at individuals in the Placer County area earlier that day. The situation escalated when deputies located him in the Iowa Hill area, where he rammed a patrol vehicle and fled on foot. During the subsequent search, Spencer fired shots at law enforcement officers and helicopters assisting in the operation, though no officers were injured. The search has been complicated by the rugged, dense forest terrain of the region. During tactical operations to clear a home where Spencer had been present, deputies discovered the body of an adult female who had been shot and killed. Investigators believe Spencer murdered the woman before fleeing into the surrounding woods. The Placer County Sheriff's Office has urged residents in the Iowa Hill area to lock their doors and remain indoors for their safety. Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the ongoing search, which is expected to continue through the night. Spencer remains at large and is considered armed and extremely dangerous. The investigating agency is the Placer County Sheriff's Office. The public is encouraged to contact local law enforcement with any information regarding Spencer's whereabouts.
