Des Moines Police are searching for a suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in the downtown business district early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of S 223rd and Marine View Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate first aid efforts by police and subsequent life-saving attempts by medics, the man died at the scene. The suspect fled the area prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Authorities have stated that the shooting was not a random act but rather the result of a dispute between two individuals. Currently, police do not have a physical description of the suspect. Detectives are actively investigating the case, which includes interviewing witnesses and reviewing all available technology to identify the individual responsible. The roadway was temporarily closed during the investigation but has since reopened. Jonathan Olsen, an employee at a nearby bar, recounted the terrifying moment the shots were fired, describing hearing multiple gunshots and witnessing the fear on the faces of those seeking shelter. The Des Moines Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the incident or who may have been involved to come forward.
