Authorities are searching for an unknown suspect wanted for carjacking and kidnapping in Los Angeles County. The incident began Friday, May 22, around 5:25 p.m. near Hampden Terrace and Sherwood Avenue in Alhambra, California. According to the Alhambra Police Department, the suspect allegedly approached a running black Honda Civic while the mother briefly entered a nearby residence. The driver returned to find the vehicle and her 3-month-old son missing. The California Highway Patrol quickly issued an Amber Alert, describing the suspect as a 5-foot-10 man in his 30s with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a black shirt, blue or black pants, and a black backpack. Approximately thirty minutes later, South Pasadena police located the stolen vehicle on Brent Avenue with the air conditioning running. The infant was discovered inside, safe and unharmed, and was subsequently evaluated by medics before being reunited with his family. Investigators believe the abduction was random and do not suspect the suspect knew a child was in the vehicle at the time. As of Friday evening, the alleged car thief and kidnapper remains at large and has not been taken into custody. The Alhambra Police Department and California Highway Patrol are actively investigating the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents in the Alhambra and South Pasadena areas are encouraged to review home security camera footage from the time of the incident. Tips can be directed to the Alhambra Police Department. This remains an active investigation as authorities continue to search for the suspect.
