The Seattle Police Department is actively searching for two suspects following a dangerous incident in the SODO neighborhood that resulted in significant property damage and injuries. The event occurred early Friday morning, around 1:30 a.m., near the 3400 block of 1st Ave. S. Multiple residents called 911 after observing several box trucks engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, firefighters and police officers responded to the scene. Initially, officers detained a 37-year-old man found near a rental truck lot fence who smelled of smoke and possessed a lighter. A witness positively identified this individual as the person seen leaving the lot prior to the fire. Consequently, the man was arrested for felony property damage, as the incident caused approximately $150,000 in damage to three rental trucks. However, further investigation by Arson and Bomb Squad detectives revealed additional details. Security footage showed a vehicle arriving with two suspects inside. These individuals appeared to be attempting to steal fuel from the box trucks when the fire unexpectedly ignited, engulfing both the suspects and their vehicle. The suspects managed to escape the flames, driving out onto 1st Ave. S. After reviewing the evidence, police released the 37-year-old man from custody, determining he was not involved in the arson. SPD is now looking for the two suspects who fled the scene. Investigators believe one of the suspects may have sustained heat injuries or singed hair and eyebrows. The public is urged to assist in the manhunt. Anyone with information regarding the identity or location of the suspects is asked to contact the Seattle Police Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to bring the individuals responsible to justice.
