The teenager sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Salem Health Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Following the discharge of gunfire around 6:20 p.m., an armed male suspect fled the scene on foot. Law enforcement agencies, including the Salem Police Department, Oregon State Police, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, immediately mobilized a multi-agency response. Officers deployed police canines and aerial drones to conduct an extensive search of nearby residential areas, particularly west of Willamette University and between Liberty Street SE and Winter Street SE. Despite the coordinated manhunt, the suspect remains at large as of May 21. Police established a perimeter around the transit station, collected evidence from the ground, and temporarily restricted traffic in the vicinity before clearing the area later that evening.
