Douglas Cobb, 51, remains at large and is wanted by law enforcement on a first-degree murder charge following the fatal shooting of Bruce Gress, 42. The incident occurred on the morning of September 18, 2026, outside a Wawa convenience store located on Route 37 westbound at Garfield Avenue in Toms River, New Jersey. According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Cobb shot Gress in the head while both men were in their respective parked vehicles. Investigators have not yet publicly disclosed a potential motive for the killing. In connection with the case, four New Jersey residents have been charged with hindering the apprehension of another person for allegedly helping Cobb evade arrest or lying to law enforcement. Sylvester Green, 43, of Bayville, and Cherice Nicholson, 46, of Howell, are currently held at the Ocean County Jail pending detention hearings. Jennifer Rizalvo, 48, of Lakewood, was served charges via summons, while Ronald Hagan, 50, of Brick Township, remains a fugitive. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer emphasized that the agency is working around the clock to apprehend Cobb and stated that anyone aiding his escape will face consequences. Authorities have released a recent photograph of Cobb, taken from body-worn camera footage in June, noting that he is also known by the alias Douglas Green and has prior convictions for drug dealing and resisting arrest. The victim, Bruce Gress, also had a criminal history, including a previous aggravated assault conviction and an attempted murder conviction in Florida. The public is urged to contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit at 732-929-2027 with any information regarding Cobb's location.
