New York City police are actively searching for a masked gunman wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 45-year-old barber Hector Figuereo. The incident occurred early Thursday morning, approximately at 3:50 a.m., outside the Riviera Gentleman’s Club located on Steinway Street near 34th Avenue in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens. According to law enforcement, Figuereo was approached from behind by the suspect, who demanded his handmade Miami Cuban link bracelet. The gunman then shot Figuereo in the back before fleeing the scene on foot. Despite the violent assault, the suspect fled empty-handed, having failed to secure the valuable jewelry. Medics rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect is described as wearing a hooded green Nike Tech sweatsuit and was last seen fleeing north on 37th Street in a white Mercedes-Benz SUV. Police have released surveillance footage capturing the suspect aiming his weapon and waiting outside the club prior to the attack. Investigators are treating the case as a robbery-homicide but are also exploring potential personal motives, as the club’s manager noted the suspect appeared to be waiting for a specific target. The community has rallied in mourning, with hundreds of friends and customers gathering at Figuereo’s barbershop in Sunset Park to pay their respects. His childhood friend and fellow barber, Edwin Cabrera, described Figuereo as a kind family man who cared for his mother and was well-liked by all who knew him. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or location to contact the NYPD or call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives review evidence and interview witnesses.
