The FBI has added a man accused of involvement in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar to its Most Wanted list, marking a significant escalation in the international manhunt for those responsible. The suspect, identified as Singh, is alleged to be the North American leader of the Bishnoi enterprise, a violent criminal organization designated as a terrorist entity by the Canadian government. Singh is believed to be based in the United States but frequently travels to Western Canada, with his last known location tied to the ongoing legal proceedings in New Westminster, British Columbia. According to FBI Assistant Director Patrick Grandy, Singh and the Bishnoi group are implicated in a wide range of violent acts, including the assassinations of political and religious figures, shootings, murders, kidnappings, extortion, assaults, and the trafficking of narcotics and weapons. Grandy emphasized that the gang cultivated a climate of fear, particularly within India and among the Indian diaspora communities worldwide. The arrest of Singh follows Operation Hard Ball, a coordinated effort by police in Canada, the United States, and Europe that resulted in the detention of 24 suspects in July. Law enforcement officials state that Singh served as the lieutenant for Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster currently imprisoned in India. Both men are charged with ordering the assassination of Nijjar, a 45-year-old supporter of the independent Sikh state known as Khalistan. The killing triggered a major diplomatic crisis, leading to the expulsion of diplomats between India and Canada. In May 2024, four Indian nationals were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the killing. The case is currently before the B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster. RCMP Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland highlighted the severity of Singh’s crimes, noting that his addition to the FBI list brings his face to millions of people globally, significantly reducing the space in which he can operate. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding Singh’s whereabouts. The investigation continues to involve multiple international agencies working together to dismantle the criminal network and bring those responsible for the assassination to justice. The FBI has not yet released specific contact information for tips regarding Singh, but the public is encouraged to monitor official FBI channels for updates.
