Long Beach Police are actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating the driver of a black sedan involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident. The suspect is wanted for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred on the evening of September 13, around 7:25 p.m., when the victim, identified by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner as 65-year-old Juvenal Banderas, was struck while walking eastbound across Pacific Avenue. The collision took place just north of Pacific Coast Highway, outside of a marked crosswalk. According to police reports, the suspect was operating a black sedan featuring tinted windows and chrome trim. After striking Mr. Banderas, the driver failed to stop and turned left onto 19th Street, fleeing the scene. Authorities have noted that the victim was struck by a total of three vehicles during the incident: first a white SUV, then the black sedan driven by the wanted suspect, and finally a 2021 Jaguar. While the Jaguar driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, the driver of the black sedan remains at large. Mr. Banderas succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after sustaining blunt traumatic injuries. Investigators are currently reviewing the sequence of events, including whether the initial impact was caused by the SUV or the sedan. The Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail is leading the inquiry. Detectives are urging anyone with information regarding the identity of the driver or the vehicle to come forward. Interested parties may contact Detective Johnson directly at 562-570-7132. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 800-222-8477 or by visiting lacrimestoppers.org. The investigation is ongoing, and police continue to seek the apprehension of the driver responsible for the fatal crash.
