The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Leonard Malcolm Ramsey, who is wanted for questioning following a series of property crimes in Colby, Kansas. According to authorities, the suspect is alleged to have burglarized at least eight vehicles and targeted one building for attempted burglary during the overnight hours of May 21 and 22, 2026. Investigators state that Ramsey allegedly entered the Colby area from East College Drive between 10:30 p.m. on May 21 and 12:45 a.m. on May 22, driving a 2011 Mazda sedan equipped with a false license plate. The situation escalated around 12:45 a.m. on May 22 when a deputy observed suspicious activity in the south parking lot of Great Western Tire on South Country Club Drive. As the deputy approached, a truck fled the scene, and Ramsey was seen running on foot. The abandoned truck was later located on Golden Avenue, and the suspect’s Mazda was discovered parked approximately 30 yards away. While numerous stolen items have been recovered and vehicle owners have been notified, authorities do not believe Ramsey successfully removed any property from the scene. The suspect is currently considered at large and is believed to have departed Thomas County. The area of interest for the investigation spans from Pine Street and Country Club Drive southward, west to Pine Street and South Franklin Avenue, and south to Franklin Avenue and College Drive. Residents and business owners with relevant information, surveillance footage, or knowledge of Ramsey’s whereabouts are urged to contact the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 785-460-4570.
