Dothan Police are actively searching for 34-year-old Mitchell Dean Wilson Jr., who is currently at large and wanted for making a false report of a firearm assault. The incident occurred on Sunday in Dothan, Alabama, prompting a significant law enforcement response. Dothan 911 dispatched officers to the 2000 block of Hodgesville Road following reports of a male subject shot in the leg. Multiple Dothan Police units and Houston County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene, establishing a perimeter and conducting an extensive search for the alleged suspect. At the time of the initial dispatch, information suggested the victim might be a homeless man, and the suspect was possibly last seen running across Hodgesville Road towards Highway 231 South. The reported victim was transported to Southeast Health for treatment. However, upon conducting a thorough investigation, Dothan Police Criminal Investigation determined that the wound was self-inflicted. No other individual was involved in shooting the victim; Wilson admitted to shooting himself. It was further revealed that Wilson fabricated the story because he has prior criminal convictions that prohibit him from possessing a firearm. Following his release from Southeast Health, law enforcement officers resumed the search for Wilson. He is now wanted for False Reporting to Law Enforcement. Dothan Police have issued a Be On Look Out (BOLO) for Wilson and are urging the public to assist in locating him. Anyone with information regarding Wilson’s whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-793-0215 or Crimestoppers at 334-215-7867. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to seek the suspect.
