Bloomington police have identified Dajhon Lee Branson-Orellana, 21, as the suspect in a shooting incident that occurred on September 6 outside the Monroe County Public Library on Kirkwood Avenue. An arrest warrant was issued on October 1, charging Branson-Orellana with Level 3 felony aggravated battery, Level 5 felony battery with a deadly weapon, Level 5 felony criminal recklessness, and Level 6 felony pointing a firearm. The suspect is currently at large and has not been taken into custody as of October 3, 2026. The charges stem from an early-morning confrontation where Branson-Orellana allegedly shot a 19-year-old victim in the neck. The victim, who was treated at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, remains stable but initially declined to cooperate with investigators. Police identified Branson-Orellana through surveillance video and a witness who selected him from a photo lineup with 100% certainty. The incident arose from a dispute over missing marijuana. A probable cause affidavit indicates that while the victim stated Branson-Orellana tried to kill him, the attempted murder charge was not included in the current warrant. Branson-Orellana already had an outstanding warrant from a separate August case involving felony intimidation. He is not listed in recent Monroe County jail booking reports. The Bloomington Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the suspect's location to contact authorities. The warrant requires Branson-Orellana to be held without bond until an initial hearing.
