Ruston Police are searching for an armed suspect responsible for shooting a convenience store clerk during a robbery on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 8:13 p.m. at the Raceway convenience store located on Farmerville Highway, also known as Louisiana Highway 33, on the northside of Ruston. According to Ruston Police Department Lieutenant Kayla Loyd, the suspect entered the establishment masked and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect then fired a single gunshot, wounding the clerk. Authorities report that the clerk’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. Following the discharge of the firearm, the suspect’s semi-automatic pistol apparently jammed. Surveillance video captures the suspect attempting to rack the slide to clear the malfunction. When the suspect was unable to resolve the mechanical issue and the clerk failed to provide any money, the individual fled the scene. The suspect is described as wearing a gray zippered jacket with the hood pulled tightly around his face, black gloves, and a black mask covering the lower part of his face. The Ruston Police Department has released surveillance footage of the robbery on its official Facebook page to assist in identifying the individual. Investigators continued working on the case into Sunday morning. The public is urged to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
