Two Dominican nationals, Sneider Mejia Bautista, 24, and Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo, 25, remain at large following a violent incident in New York City. The suspects are wanted for attempted murder and robbery in connection with the stabbing of an off-duty New York Police Department detective. The incident occurred on Friday, October 2, 2026, in New York City. According to sources within the Department of Homeland Security, both individuals have extensive criminal histories in the United States and were previously released into the country despite federal custody requests. Sneider Mejia Bautista was originally apprehended by Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, on December 2, 2022, and has faced deportation orders since May 2025. He was previously arrested by the NYPD in the Bronx for criminal possession of a weapon in October 2025, at which time an ICE detainer was filed but reportedly ignored by local authorities. Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo entered the U.S. illegally near San Luis, Arizona, on February 2, 2023. He has been arrested five times by the NYPD since January 2024 for offenses including reckless endangerment, possession of burglar's tools, criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a loaded firearm, and criminal menacing involving a weapon. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized that both suspects were released into the country by the previous administration and that sanctuary policies prevented cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The suspects are currently on the run, and the NYPD has not yet officially released their names, though Fox News has identified them based on DHS sources. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding their whereabouts. The investigating agencies include the New York Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security. Tips regarding the location of the suspects can be directed to local law enforcement or federal authorities.
