Akron police are actively seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted for a shooting that occurred last week. The incident took place around 5:17 p.m. on May 20 at Hardesty Park, specifically in the 1600 block of West Market Street. According to law enforcement reports, the suspect was involved in a disturbance near a park pavilion when a 60-year-old victim approached him to request that he stop. The suspect allegedly responded by brandishing a firearm and firing a single gunshot into the victim’s left leg. The victim was transported to a local medical facility, where his injuries are currently considered non-life-threatening. Following the discharge of the weapon, the suspect fled the scene on foot and was last observed heading southbound toward a nearby McDonald’s. Detectives from the Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have taken over the investigation and released a photograph of the suspect to aid in identification. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts or the May 20 shooting to come forward.
