The New York Police Department is actively searching for a suspect wanted in connection with two separate grand larceny incidents that occurred in Queens nearly two months ago. The suspect, described as a man with a dark complexion, allegedly targeted two young women he met through a social media application. He lured them to specific locations under the guise of needing to add his credit card information to their devices, only to steal their expensive cellphones once they complied. The first incident took place on August 18 in Jackson Heights, where an 18-year-old woman was deceived at the Junction Boulevard 7 train station mezzanine. The second incident occurred on August 23 in Corona, where a 26-year-old victim was tricked into handing over two phones at the Park of the Americas. Both victims were not physically injured during the encounters. The stolen devices were valued at a combined total of $3,399. Police released surveillance images of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a white T-shirt, white sweatpants, and white and black sneakers. The NYPD is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information that leads to the suspect's arrest and indictment. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or submit tips via their website or X account. All tips are kept strictly confidential. This case is part of a broader trend in Queens, where grand larceny reports have increased in some precincts this year. The 110th Precinct, which covers Corona, has seen a rise in such crimes, highlighting the importance of public vigilance and assistance in identifying individuals who exploit social media connections for theft.
