Graves County Sheriff’s deputies are actively seeking Matthew I. Jones, a 44-year-old man from Martin, Tennessee, who is currently at large on an arrest warrant. The warrant stems from a serious traffic incident that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, around 5 p.m. on Interstate 69 southbound near the 20-mile marker in Graves County, Kentucky. Jones was driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue at the time of the collision with a semi-truck driven by William A. Cox, 49, of Ulysses. The semi was hauling 39,000 pounds of steel beams. Jones’s passenger, Amy J. Jones, 44, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. Initially, Jones told responding deputies that Cox had cut him off and intentionally rammed the rear of his vehicle. However, Cox disputed this account, stating that Jones made obscene gestures, pulled in front of the truck, and slammed on his brakes, causing the rear-end collision. Deputies reviewed dash camera footage from the semi, which contradicted Jones’s version of events. The video allegedly showed Jones intentionally braking hard directly in front of the truck, leading deputies to classify the incident as road rage. Consequently, deputies obtained an arrest warrant charging Jones with reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, failure to wear a seat belt, and falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement. Jones has been notified of the warrant but had not surrendered to authorities as of the time of this report. Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince led the investigation into the collision. Sheriff Jon Hayden emphasized the dangers of road rage, urging the public to consider the consequences of their actions on the road. Jones is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding Jones’s location to contact law enforcement immediately.
