Authorities in Dooly County, Georgia, are actively searching for suspects following a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the city of Vienna. The incident took place during a block party celebrating a Dooly County High School homecoming football victory. According to the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office, more than 50 shots were fired in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in two fatalities and 35 injuries. No arrests have been announced, and the individuals responsible remain at large. The victims identified by Sheriff Craig Peavy are Ja'Quavion Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case, though officials have stated the two deceased men do not appear to be related. In addition to the two deaths, 35 people were injured; most sustained gunshot wounds, while others were hurt during the chaotic scramble to flee the scene. Some victims remain hospitalized with critical injuries. The block party was not a school-sponsored event and lacked a city permit, drawing over 1,000 attendees to a four-block area. Sheriff Peavy noted that the sheer volume of people from various locations contributed to the difficulty in managing the situation and identifying the source of the gunfire. Witnesses described a terrifying scene where bullets were fired indiscriminately, causing revelers to scatter. The investigation is ongoing, with state and local law enforcement working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
